GREAT VOLUNTEER DAYS WITH HABITAT FOR HUMANITY HURON VALLEY! - Jessica D.

Subaru of Ann Arbor once again showed their commitment to community by joining Habitat for Humanity of Huron Valley for two incredible volunteer days this year. The team dedicated one day to working on a Habitat build site, helping to create a future home for a local family, and another day on an Exterior Project, making a real contribution to beautifying a neighborhood and supporting longtime homeowners. Their continued partnership and willingness to roll up their sleeves makes a tangible difference in the lives of families and the strength of our community. We are deeply grateful for Subaru of Ann Arbor’s ongoing dedication to the Subaru Love Promise and to Habitat’s mission of building homes, securing futures, and strengthening communities. Thank you Subaru of Ann Arbor!

LOVE is good medicine - Kate M.

Fisher Houses are comfort homes where military & Veterans' families can stay free of charge while a loved one is in the hospital. There are 100 Fisher Houses around the world, and each one feels like a home-away-from-home during a medical challenge. United States Marine Corps Veteran Sergeant Krebbs and his son were just two of the thousands of guests who stay in a Fisher House any given night. In addition to their military service, Fisher House guests all have another thing in common: they rave about the food. Food means nourishment, comfort, and love. Teams from Subaru of Ann Arbor volunteer their time to prepare home-cooked meals for the families staying in the Ann Arbor Fisher House, creating a tremendous and positive impact. Fisher House guests are there to support a hospitalized Veteran. No one is there on their best day -- worry, grief, and exhaustion usually come with guests as they enter the Fisher House. After spending an exhausting day at the hospital with their Veteran, the last thing folks want to think about is "what's for dinner?" -- that's where donors and volunteers come in! The comfort of a hot meal lifts some of those heavy burdens, making the day just a little bit easier. Subaru and Fisher House know how important this is... because LOVE is good medicine!

Subaru of Ann Arbor Fights Hunger Where We Live! - Dani W.

Subaru of Ann Arbor fights hunger where we live! As a valued Food Gatherers partner over the years, they've helped rescue thousands of pounds of food, providing nutritious meals to our Washtenaw County neighbors. Subaru of Ann Arbor has also dedicated hundreds of hours to the fight against hunger. We’ve had the pleasure of working with their team members at our warehouse, community kitchen, and Rockin’ for the Hungry - our largest annual fundraiser, which raises a million meals for individuals and families facing hunger. “Whenever Subaru of Ann Arbor volunteers, they bring a genuine passion for serving the community,” shared Anisah McEwan, Food Gatherers Volunteer Coordinator. “Whether they are baking cookies at the community kitchen or sorting rescued food at our warehouse, they put their hearts into everything they do.” Generous sponsorships from Subaru of Ann Arbor have also made a tremendous impact on our community. We’ve had the honor of being a two-time Share the Love recipient, where hundreds of dollars from each new Subaru sold are invested back into the community, providing Food Gatherers with more than $20,000 both years. With these contributions alone, they’ve provided 80,000 nutritious meals to children, adults, and seniors experiencing food insecurity. We are proud to partner with Subaru of Ann Arbor. Their commitment to the fight against hunger has been invaluable here in Washtenaw County.

Walk & Wag was a success! - Laura C.

Subaru of Ann Arbor was the Presenting Sponsor of Walk & Wag and Run, our shelter's largest and most critical annual fundraiser. The event went smoothly, it was a beautiful day, and we saw about 1,000 humans and hundreds of canine attendees! Most importantly, our community raised over $360,000 for the animals. We are incredibly grateful to Subaru of Ann Arbor for their support. From volunteering in the lead-up with important event tasks, to promoting the event to their followers and attending with a fantastic booth and featured vehicle, to donating a unique sweatshirt prize incentive for top fundraisers, they helped to make the event an enormous success! We’re honored to be one of many nonprofits they uplift in our community.

Subaru of Ann Arbor Continues to Give Back with Habitat for Humanity Huron Valley - Jessica D.

For the second year in a row, Subaru of Ann Arbor has partnered with Habitat for Humanity of Huron Valley to sponsor not just one, but two volunteer days—bringing their total to four amazing teams of employees giving back to the community. This year, their first day focused on exterior projects for two local homes. The Subaru team took on gardening, installed gutter guards, cleaned up the outside spaces, and generally beautified the block! The second day was truly hands-on at a brand-new Habitat build. Subaru employees jumped into the construction process, helping with framing and other hefty tasks! It was a real team effort, and they were so hard-working and enthusiastic- our construction team was really impressed! Subaru of Ann Arbor has been a fantastic partner and continues to show thier dedication to making a difference. Whether it’s on a property in need of some sprucing up or helping build from the ground up, they’re proving that community support is a key part of what they do. Thank you Subaru of Ann Arbor!

House by the Side of the Road - Gemaya G.

On a snowy day in January 2024, the Subaru of Ann Arbor team brought more than 100 coats to the House by the Side of the Road. The House by the Side of the Road provides free clothing and small household items to children and adults in need in Washtenaw County. People come in after family breakup, job loss, fire, or prolonged illness. We also serve those who are homeless, those who are reentering society from prison, people with mental health issues, recent immigrants, and migrant workers. Most of our clients are struggling to get by, and a winter coat can be expensive to buy. Some children who don't have a winter coat, can't go outside during recess. Our clients were thrilled that they were able to get new coats and not used ones, especially for their children. It is a blessing to help people who our struggling in our community!

THANK YOU to Subaru of Ann Arbor for donating a FULL breakfast during Teacher Appreciation Week. During this trying time at Ann Arbor Public Schools, it was so great to feel appreciated and enjoy a delicious breakfast. Thank you for your continued partnership! Cate

Subaru of Ann Arbor is fighting hunger where we live! - Lauren G.

Food Gatherers is so grateful to Subaru of Ann Arbor for championing the fight against hunger in Washtenaw County. Their support helps our food bank meet the rising need for food assistance and work toward a future where everyone has the food they need to thrive. As a member of our Bread Winner corporate sponsorship program and has donated more than $26,000 to fuel the fight against hunger in 2024. In addition to financial donations, Subaru of Ann Arbor provides enthusiastic volunteer support. So far in 2024, 13 volunteers have donated 34 hours over three days of service, with three more planned in the next few months. Thanks to their support, children, adults, and seniors can access healthy, reliable groceries and meals in their community. This generosity makes a real difference in the lives of our neighbors facing food insecurity. One of our partner agencies, a residential site, recently shared this impact story: “An older resident with diabetes and other medical needs began using our food pantry as soon as he moved in with us. Since then, he regularly comes to staff to discuss the ‘beautiful and delicious meals’ he is preparing with the food he was able to obtain through Food Gatherers. He has identified a decrease in medical events since moving in and frequently talks about how he is eating better every day.”

Subaru helps dreams come true at Pittsfield! - Caitlin O.

Subaru is a bright light that shines into our school at the beginning of the school year! As all the teachers come together for the first staff meeting of the year, emotions are high as the room fills with anticipation for what the school year will bring. In walks our Subaru family, pushing carts and carts of requested school supplies. The exact staple remover our teachers love, the pencil sharpener that actually sharpens pencils, the dry erase markers that don't dry out after one week. In a thankless profession, it is so incredible for our staff to feel supported and loved. Each and every day, our staff come to school ready to do whatever it takes to support our students and ensure the best learning environment. The donations from Subaru allow the staff to have the supplies they need to most effectively do their jobs. Subaru has wrapped their arms around our school community and we are forever grateful for the love!

Supporting Autism Through Subaru Activism - Leah Z.

In the spring of 2023, I had the pleasure of being looped into a fundraising initiative to benefit the C.S. Mott Children's Hospital. As a development officer, supporting the division of Developmental Behavioral Pediatrics, I will often partner with individuals or corporations who are interested in supporting initiatives associated with behavioral health for the pediatric population. In this instance, I was delighted to communicate and collaborate with Valerie Niedermeier from Subaru of Ann Arbor, and owner Michael. Subaru of Ann Arbor hosted a barbeque cookoff competition, where the public could also come and take a look at vehicles. The event raised over $5,000 this year, and was a joy to attend! Proceeds supported the expansion of Autism screening tools and training for pediatricians located in Southeast Michigan. These screening tools allow pediatricians to engage vulnerable populations much faster than typical, and help them get scheduled for more comprehensive evaluations if needed. This improves outcomes for children with behavioral health disorders such as Autism and ADHD, and significantly helps them get plugged in for therapy services to improve their quality of life, coping skills, and find strengths. It was such an amazing experience, and the Division of Developmental Behavioral Pediatrics is grateful for this generous and creative support!

Subaru of Ann Arbor: Driving Positive Change in Partnership with Friends In Deed - Elisa G.

Every day at Friends In Deed, we provide emergency financial assistance, offer free furniture to turn houses into homes, ensure safe and comfortable rest with new beds and cribs, break down access barriers through transportation aid and donated vehicles, and empower individuals through our Circles program to break free from the cycle of poverty and build a brighter future. Subaru of Ann Arbor, our new friends, have made a significant impact on us and the community in a short time. Our partnership story began at last year's Over The Edge event, where Valerie and Brandon from their team volunteered as landing zone announcers. Their enthusiasm and unwavering support brought smiles to everyone's faces, creating a sense of unity and shared purpose. For the past two years, Subaru of Ann Arbor has proudly sponsored our event. Their generous sponsorship not only provided crucial financial support but also allowed us to reach greater heights in our mission of "Helping people in need and building a community to end poverty." However, Subaru of Ann Arbor's support goes beyond sponsorship. They've actively rolled up their sleeves to help with furniture deliveries, ensuring that homes in our community have the essential furniture they need. This hands-on approach reflects their dedication to making a tangible and lasting difference in the lives of those we serve. One unique aspect of Subaru of Ann Arbor's partnership with Friends In Deed is their commitment to donating directly to Circles Leader fundraisers. This approach reflects their belief in supporting individuals, not just programs. They understand that behind every initiative, there are people with dreams and aspirations. That's why they've chosen to contribute to the specific goals of Circles Leaders, providing them with the means to make a brighter future a reality. In a short time, Subaru of Ann Arbor has become cherished partners in our journey to end poverty and build a stronger, more compassionate community. Their enthusiastic engagement, financial support, and commitment to making a personal difference are a source of inspiration for us all. Together, we're driving positive change, one act of kindness at a time. We're immensely grateful for Subaru of Ann Arbor's partnership and look forward to continuing to make a profound impact on the lives of those in need, guided by the belief that every contribution, big or small, has the power to create lasting change."

Spreading the word about Gold Hearts - Laura C.

Subaru of Ann Arbor spent October 2023 promoting our "Gold Hearts" animals. These are animals who have been waiting for a home for at least a month, who need special marketing attention in order to reach that perfect adopter. Gold Hearts tend to require more commitment than the usual animal; they might be a cat with special medical needs, or a dog who prefers not to live with other dogs...through no fault of their own, these animals are often passed up for adoption. Mojo is one of those Gold Hearts who finally found a home this October, after waiting patiently for nearly 2 months. He's a sprightly 1-year-old who is also a little shy at first, so he needed a dog-savvy adopter willing to put in the time and training to help Mojo not only build his confidence but learn some basic manners. We were thrilled when that perfect adopter came along, and know that Mojo's personality will truly be able to shine in his new home! Thank you Subaru of Ann Arbor for helping to spread the word about our Gold Hearts, and raising awareness about the animals who need homes the most.

Day of Service Volunteering at The Humane Society of Huron Valley - Tawn H.

We cannot thank Subaru of Ann Arbor enough for their support during our monthly "Day of Service" volunteering. We had a great group of volunteers who helped make shelters for our "Community Cats" program. In addition, this team of volunteers helped prepare materials that will be used by our Humane Education staff to run our camp programs this summer. We appreciate the support and great team effort!

Our PARKnership with Subaru of Ann Arbor! - Melissa S.

As our Ann Arbor Parks gear up for a fun and busy 2023 season, we're looking back at how businesses in our community supported our parks in 2022. In collaboration with the GIVE 365 and Adopt-a-Park volunteer programs, Subaru did a fantastic job helping to clean up Gallup Park in spring 2022! This group and some of their families walked through the 69-acre park to look for litter, to make sure the park is clean and inviting for all. They also took on the job of prepping one of the playgrounds for a busy summer - including raking up leaves, sweeping, and cleaning up landscaping - a big job. And finally, they worked in the park's Butterfly Garden by removing non-native invasive shrubs, making space for our native vegetation to flourish. They also braved the waters by hopping in canoes and removed litter from the Gallup Pond during fall! We really value partnering with local Ann Arbor businesses and we're looking forward to working with Subaru of Ann Arbor again this spring!

Thousands of Meals - James E.

Subaru of Ann Arbor has always been huge a supporter of Food Gatherers. We are the food rescue and food bank that serves Washtenaw County. We literally could not feed Washtenaw County if we did not have the support of organizations like Subaru of Ann Arbor. Over the years, they have been involved in nearly every aspect of our organization. They have provided financial support equating to thousands of meals provided to the community. They have also been active supporters of our volunteer program. In the last six months alone, they have provided volunteers almost every month. Their volunteers have helped us sort thousands of pounds of rescued food for us to distribute at no cost to our community partners. On one specific occasion, we had a crew of four volunteers help pack more than two tons of food for us to distribute. They have also provided volunteers to our Community Kitchen! At the kitchen we serve meals to anyone that arrives during meal times and at no cost. Subaru volunteers have helped on multiple kitchen shifts and helped served hundreds of fresh, healthy, and hot meals directly to folks in our community. We are incredibly grateful for their support.

Cassius Finds a Home - Laura C.

Cassius is one of those dogs who needed just the right adopter. Not just anyone could offer him the lifestyle he needed. This good, somewhat shy boy waited for 14 months, hoping for a home where he could get plenty of exercise, training and confidence boosting. Due to his anxiety, he also needed an adopter willing to keep up with his anxiety medication and provide a stable routine. In October 2022, he finally found that adopter. Thank you to Subaru of Ann Arbor for your incredible support, which helps give us the resources to be a no-kill shelter and keep animals for as long as it takes to find that perfect match. No time limits. And thank you for helping to spread the word about our adoptable animals!

Kitty Kitty Finds a Home - Laura C.

Kitty Kitty was a staff favorite at the shelter. Adventurous, affectionate, an insatiable lap cat with a quirky and loving personality. She should have found a home in no time, except for one fact...she was 11 years old. Senior cats always wait longer to find homes, watching as all the younger cats around them cycle through the shelter. Kitty Kitty had been waiting at the Humane Society of Huron Valley since July. Finally, in October, the perfect match came along and she found a home of her own! Thank you to Subaru of Ann Arbor for your incredible support, which helps give us the resources to keep animals for as long as it takes to find that perfect match. No time limits. And thank you for helping to spread the word about our adoptable animals!

Dad & Daughter from Shelter to Housing - Lisa Z.

Because of the support we receive from our local Subaru dealer, Subaru of Ann Arbor, we are able to help families like this one: A young dad and his-two year old daughter came to us directly from the Congo, leaving behind a pregnant wife, to establish a family stronghold and a chance for a new life. Their English was rudimentary – although we really loved hearing a toddler speaking French! With the help of our service team, his daughter started day care where she had the opportunity to socialize with other children. Dad obtained work at a local grocery store, worked hard with our program staff to locate housing, went to school to work on his English, and then obtained his Commercial Driver’s License. He is now employed as a school bus driver. His daughter is thriving and he is saving money to fulfill the dream of having the rest of his family join him soon.

Subaru and LLS Blanket Drop Off - Mallory T.

Subaru of Ann Arbor was so amazing to partner with us at LLS to drop of blankets. They dropped off over 80 blankets and over 25 arts and crafts kits to children with cancer at Mott Children's hospital in Ann Arbor. We are so grateful for our relationship with them and cannot wait to do it again next year! Thanks, Subaru of Ann Arbor!

Shelter for a Family - Lisa Z.

Abandoned by her abusive husband and facing eviction, Kim and her three young children sought shelter at Alpha House. Kim had not worked in seven years and could not imagine where to begin to gain the income needed to support her family. Working together with her Case Manager, Kim found the strength to file for divorce and obtain counseling for herself and her children family. Her case manager also worked with Kim to locate housing. After nearly 3 months in the Alpha House shelter, Kim and the kids moved into housing with a rental subsidy that will allow her to build her skills as she works to become financially stable. Kim began a medical assistant training program that will place her in employment once she completes her courses. Her Case Manager, along with the Alpha House Employment Specialist and Landlord Liaison, continue to meet with her to provide guidance and support as she works toward her goals of economic self-sufficiency and a safe, secure life for her children. The support received from Subaru of Ann Arbor is vital to the success of the homeless families such as Kim’s. Thank you Subaru of Ann Arbor!
